Awareness Program

Awareness

Nepal has become the state party of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) since 2010. The new constitution of Nepal 2072 has secured some rights of persons with disabilities. The Act on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2074 has been promulgated which has adopted many rights enshrined in CRPD. In 2013 the government adopted guidelines and standards for making the public infrastructure, transportation and communication services accessible for persons with disabilities. Many other federal and provincial laws have also injected various provisions related to rights of persons with disabilities. A paradigm shift can be observed in the concept and definition of disability on an international level. However in our society there is still a traditional approach to deal with disability and to treat the persons living with disabilities. The society, community, stakeholders, duty bearers and even the persons with disabilities are still not aware of such new development. So DHRPS has aim to increase awareness on disability rights and above discussed subjects matter to change action and attitude of society and state.
